AMOG Presenting @ All Energy Conference

AMOG's Tim Lee will be presenting at the All Energy Conference to be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on the 12th and 13th of October. Tim's presentation will discuss 'Technical Barriers to the Commercialisation of Marine Renewable Energy Systems'

Presentation Abstract

During development of marine renewable energy systems, there are many technical challenges that must be overcome to create a cost effective, efficient and commercially viable system. Some of these technical challenges are central to the operation of the energy converter itself, but others can be associated with peripheral issues not central to demonstrating the systems viability. These peripheral technological risks can aggregate, creating a significant barrier to demonstrating the commercial viability of a project during prototype and pre-commercial testing phases. The presentation will look at some of these technical risk areas, and how these technological risks can be effectively managed by adapting proven solutions from the offshore industry.

Presenter Biography

Tim Lee is an Associate Director of AMOG, a specialist consultancy offering high technology engineering solutions in response to complex problems across the offshore energy, marine, mining, transport and defence sectors.

Tim has worked on the engineering design of foundation systems, mooring systems, power cable shore interconnect routing and mechanical design, and installation engineering of a number of marine renewable energy projects proposed for Australian waters. This marine renewable energy experience has drawn on Tim’s extensive practice with offshore structure and submarine cable design for the offshore oil and gas and civil infrastructure industries.

This experience ranges from conceptual design, through numerical modelling and physical testing for design, to support during the installation and operations phases. Tim has previously authored conference papers on Design and Deployment Issues for Marine Renewables into the Open Ocean. A copy of one of last years papers can be downloaded here
